Historic Sign Restored
After two years of restoration work the historic Swanton Arrow sign will be reinstalled at its original location at the corner of Airport Highway and Main Street tomorrow morning (11/5/2009) at 9 a.m.
The historic sign, in the shape of an arrow, is 10 feet 6 inches long, 3 feet tall and 1 foot thick and will rest atop a 19 foot 4 inch pole. The sign was original erected in the 1940’s and was removed in the 1970s. It remained in storage and was forgotten until December 2007 when it was rediscovered. All of the neon was broken and it was in a general state of disrepair.
The Swanton Area Chamber of Commerce led the process to have the sign restored and received the generous support from local businesses. T.R. Worline & Associates did the engineering for the new mountings and foundation, Swanton Welding fabricated the mountings and the support pole, Squigy & Ziggy’s Graphics did the graphic design and lettering, Sampsell’s Body Shop did all of the stripping and repainting, and the Corn Festival committee donated the money to repair the neon. The neon work was done by Letters N Neon. The Village of Swanton provided the legal work and prepared the foundation for the sign. Rite Aid graciously allowed the sign to be replaced on their property at its original location. All of the materials and labor were donated and valued at over $10,000.00
